Thinking

Want to sell in an idea? Visualize it.

There’s a very simple tool in our toolbox that can help us all sell in an idea. Bring it to life visually.

Oftentimes our ideas are hard for another person to imagine explaining it just with words. We’re not all storytellers or take the time to turn our idea into a great story that allows the human mind to experience it. In addition, it’s been shown that visuals are processed 60,000 times faster than words, so your idea can be conveyed much more quickly through a visual than trying to explain it verbally. Net, it won’t take as much effort for your audience to grasp your idea when using an image.

I worked with a Fortune 500 CPG company and their VP of Innovation to bring the company along and sell in organizational strategies and innovation ideas. The way we did it—visualization. It was common for us to invest in visualizing presentations so they were compelling and visualizing innovation concepts so that executives and board members could imagine what these new products might look like in the real world.

So, when words fail us, turn to visuals. In working with my former client, visualization moved the organization and its leaders to invest behind big change and ideas. You can do the same with this powerful, yet simple tool.
